2008 Australia-China Legal Profession Development Program participants meet with the Attorney-General

The second Australia-China Legal Profession Development program commenced in February 2008, with the arrival of eight Chinese lawyers and government officials in Australia. The program was again funded under AusAID, with all eight of the participants obtaining Australian Leadership Awards - Fellowships.
The first six weeks of the program involved study tours in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney, with visits to relevant legal institutions and government departments and agencies and intensive training courses, including attendance at the Australian Securities and Investment Commission Summer School. The participants then commenced tailored work placements.
Placements for 2008 included both private law firms: Minter Ellison, Adelaide, Finlaysons, Adelaide, Mallesons Stephen Jaques, Sydney, Holman Webb, Sydney, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Melbourne, Russell Kennedy, Melbourne, MacDonnells Law, Brisbane, and government agencies, specifically the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Victoria, Office of Parliamentary Counsel, Western Australia and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Australian Capital Territory. Following the work placements, participants attended a further three day program in Canberra, before returning to China.
As a component of the program, participants developed short presentations on topics relevant to their studies and experience in Australia (see below for copies of the presentations).
