ILSAC initiatives and projects

ILSAC International Legal Services Statistics

ILSAC recently completed the International Legal Services Statistics project for the 2004-05 financial year, which revealed total Australian legal services exports and cross-border activity of $543.2 million. The project aimed to improve on previously available statistics by including billings from overseas offices, and by gathering information on the types of legal services provided and the ways in which they were delivered.

Australia – China Legal Profession Development Program

The pilot program for the Australia – China Legal Profession Development Program ran from February to mid-July 2007, with 10 Chinese lawyers and officials arriving in Australia to undertake focused training placements, preceded by an initial education program and study tour. Activities included attendance at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission summer school, and specialised training sessions at the Attorney-General’s Department and at Australian universities. The project was funded by AusAID.

Legal Services Market Access Snapshots

ILSAC is developing ‘market access snapshots’ for priority legal services markets, providing an overview of existing market access barriers, Australia’s market access objectives, and current Australian initiatives. ILSAC has agreed to share these snapshots with the Law Council of Australia (LCA) with the aim of providing versions of the snapshots as a shared internet resource for legal practitioners and regulators. The joint ILSAC – LCA snapshot on Australia is available.
